The Modern Warfare 4 October 24 update is now live, delivering another launch-week round of fixes for Multiplayer and DMZ. Infinity Ward’s patch improves Hijack spawns, closes a Search and Destroy defuse exploit, addresses disappearing Exfil helicopters and prevents party leaders from unintentionally marking teammates’ Active Duty Operators as MIA.
This is a focused post-launch update, not a new content drop or weapon-balancing patch. It follows the broader MW4 launch patch notes already covered by CODSKINS and targets problems reported after the game’s 23 October release.
MW4 October 24 update: the biggest changes
- Improved spawn locations and respawn timing in the new Hijack mode.
- Stopped Search and Destroy bomb defuses from unintended distances or positions.
- Fixed several DMZ Exfil, squad, mission-marker and progression problems.
- Resolved multiple menu, Gunsmith and inventory-interface bugs.
- Closed additional DMZ exploits and fixed more locations where players could become stuck.
- Added further stability and crash fixes across all modes, including PC-specific work.
Global stability and interface fixes
Infinity Ward says the update fixes several stability and crash issues across the full game. The studio has not published platform-specific file sizes, so download size may vary between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Battle.net and Steam.
The largest group of global changes concerns menus, inventory management and Gunsmith:
- DMZ Stash options should no longer appear unexpectedly in the centre of the screen.
- Front-end menus should stop closing without warning in several previously affected situations.
- On PC, the Split inventory keybind now reflects a custom Ping keybind correctly.
- Finishing Move effects should no longer continue after returning to Create a Class.
- DMZ Weapon Builds should not appear as available in Core Multiplayer.
- Applying certain camos or reticles in DMZ Gunsmith should no longer deduct DMZ cash.
- Editing a loadout should no longer place a standard weapon in the Melee slot.
- Weapon attachments now reset correctly when a weapon is Prestiged in Gunsmith.
Two visual weapon issues were also fixed: an incorrect M4 attachment that could distort the muzzle and floating bullets inside empty or partially used magazines on the La Sombra Venenosa Blueprint.
Multiplayer changes
Hijack spawns and respawn timing
The October 24 patch adjusts spawn locations and respawn timing in Hijack. Infinity Ward has not supplied exact values, so there is no confirmed universal respawn timer to quote. The practical goal is a cleaner flow with fewer frustrating returns to combat.
Search and Destroy exploit closed
A bomb could previously be defused from an unintended distance or position in Search and Destroy. The patch closes that interaction, meaning defenders should now have to approach the objective normally.
Hardcore radar and map fixes
The Portable Radar Field Upgrade now displays its Minimap correctly in Hardcore matches. Infinity Ward also stopped the Deathstalker Killstreak from travelling outside Rooftops’ map boundaries and fixed Favorite Operators failing to equip properly in Collateral.
The patch notes reiterate that Player Prestige and Weapon Prestige cannot be activated while actively searching for a match. The interface has been updated to make that restriction clearer; it is intended behaviour rather than a remaining bug. For a detailed explanation of both progression paths, read the CODSKINS MW4 Prestige guide.
DMZ fixes in the October 24 update
DMZ receives the most consequential fixes in this round. The update addresses issues that could affect Active Duty Operators, Exfil, missions and earned progression.
- More areas where Operators could become trapped in Hajin’s rocks have been corrected.
- Party leaders should no longer pull teammates out of DMZ without consent and mark their Active Duty Operators as MIA.
- Objective markers during the Obtain Code stages of the Dark Zone Story Mission should point to the correct enemy.
- An out-of-bounds location in the FOB has been closed.
- Dog Tags and Bounties should display the correct looted data more consistently.
- The Exfil helicopter should no longer disappear while players are still inside.
- AI reinforcements during the Shopping Mission should spawn less aggressively.
- The Page 19 Philanthropist Order now tracks Weekly Mission Challenges completed before the Order was unlocked.
- Infinity Ward closed several additional exploits without documenting methods that could encourage abuse.
The forced squad extraction fix is particularly important because the previous behaviour could turn an unwanted exit into a meaningful loss of DMZ progress. Players who encounter another similar case should record the match details and report it through official support.
Known issues that are not fixed yet
Three problems remain under investigation:
- The regional map animation shown while searching for lobbies has been temporarily disabled while Infinity Ward investigates hitching.
- Some Multiplayer players may still be kicked while spectating.
- PC players may receive a network error when extracting from DMZ with a looted Dog Tag.
The team also recently addressed static or incorrect player-model animations and delivered more PC crash fixes. Those items are listed as recently updated, but players should not assume that every animation or stability problem has been eliminated.
Does the update change weapons or add rewards?
No confirmed balance adjustments, weapons, maps or reward tracks were added on October 24. The weapon entries are visual bug fixes rather than damage, range or recoil tuning. Any posts claiming that this patch secretly changed the meta should be treated as unverified unless Infinity Ward publishes new values.

What happens next?
Infinity Ward says it will continue releasing fixes and has directed players to the official MW4 Trello board for live investigations. The developer previously said it was studying weapon performance for further tuning, but no specific balance changes or delivery date are confirmed in the October 24 notes.
CODSKINS will keep the Modern Warfare 4 news hub updated as additional patches, events and promotional rewards are verified.
