Bandai Namco has confirmed when Roger Jr. joins Tekken 8 and shown exactly how the returning kangaroo fighter works. The gameplay trailer debuted during EVO France on 11 October 2026, followed by a detailed developer breakdown and a first in-game look at Season 3’s final fighter, Yujiro Hanma.

Roger Jr. enters early access on 12 November 2026 and becomes available to everyone on 17 November. The character is paid DLC: players will need either the Tekken 8 Season 3 Pass or the standalone Roger Jr. add-on. Below is every confirmed detail, including his stances, Heat options, story and the timing of Yujiro’s next reveal.
Tekken 8 Roger Jr. release date and early access
| Content | Confirmed date | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Roger Jr. early access | 12 November 2026 | Season 3 Pass |
| Roger Jr. general release | 17 November 2026 | Season 3 Pass or standalone DLC |
| Yujiro Hanma gameplay trailer | 17 January 2027 | Reveal at the Tekken World Tour 2026 Global Finals |
| Yujiro Hanma playable release | Early 2027 | Season 3’s fourth DLC fighter |
The five-day gap matters if you want to practise Roger Jr. before his wider release. Bandai Namco’s announcement only names the Season 3 Pass for early access, while the standalone DLC is listed as an alternative way to obtain the character once general access begins.
Who is Roger Jr. in Tekken 8?
Roger Jr. is the son of Roger, the genetically engineered military kangaroo introduced in Tekken 2. The younger fighter last appeared more than a decade ago in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Despite the name, most attacks are performed by Roger Jr.’s mother while he rides in her pouch, but the Tekken 8 animation team has given the joey a more active role so the pair visibly fight together.
The new story begins after Roger’s infidelity leads to a furious uppercut from his partner. He crashes into a secret G Corp research facility and accidentally causes an explosion, prompting the company to place a bounty on a glove-wearing kangaroo. Roger Jr. and his mother are then mistaken for the wanted animal and repeatedly attacked. Their solution is characteristically direct: find Roger and deal with the head of G Corp.
Roger Jr.’s fighting style explained
Bandai Namco describes Roger Jr. as a close-range attacker built around stances, strong throws and repeated mix-ups. His reach is deliberately limited, so he is not designed to win neutral exchanges by casually poking from a distance. Instead, players are encouraged to close the gap and keep opponents guessing between lows, mids, throws and stance transitions.
The simple input philosophy should make him approachable for newcomers, but his decisions are layered enough for experienced players. The development team specifically highlighted three stances: Rocket Stance, Astronauts and Bobbin Dance.
Rocket Stance
Rocket Stance is positioned as the centre of Roger Jr.’s offence. It can be entered from relatively low-risk moves and gives access to useful lows plus simplified versions of throws such as Whirling Punishment and Uluru Hurricane Bomb. That combination lets Roger Jr. begin a guessing game without always making a huge commitment first.
Astronauts
Astronauts is a new aerial stance that uses the kangaroo’s jumping power. Certain heavy attacks launch Roger Jr. upward, opening routes into follow-ups that can maintain advantage on block, activate Heat Engagers or threaten an unbreakable throw. The trade-off is access: Astronauts generally begins from bigger, slower moves, so opponents have an opportunity to stop the setup before the dangerous options arrive.
Bobbin Dance and Heat
Bobbin Dance is exclusive to Heat and follows transition attacks with unusually strong properties. From the stance, Roger Jr. can force a fast choice between an unblockable high attack and a mid that launches into an air combo. The sequence consumes a large portion of the remaining Heat timer, meaning a failed read wastes much of his strongest temporary resource.
His Heat Smash also leaves Roger Jr. with an advantage when blocked and transitions directly into Astronauts. In practical terms, Heat helps solve the short-range problem: it keeps him close enough to continue pressure and makes disengaging more difficult.
The moon-smashing Rage Art and smaller details
Roger Jr.’s Rage Art recreates the slapstick endings from Tekken 5 and Tekken 6, then escalates them. The opponent is launched through the ceiling, blasted toward the moon and caught in an exaggerated lunar impact. The trailer also includes returning kangaroo-crossing road signs based on the Tekken 2 ending.
Bandai Namco made a subtle costume change after feedback from Australian fans. The mother kangaroo’s necklace originally read “mom,” but now uses the Australian-English “mum.” A separate resort costume uses golden wattle, Australia’s national flower, as the basis of its pattern.
Yujiro Hanma is the final Season 3 fighter
The trailer ended with the first proper in-game model for Yujiro Hanma, the Baki series guest character. Bandai Namco says Yujiro is planned for early 2027 and will complete the Season 3 roster after Kunimitsu, Bob and Roger Jr.
His full gameplay trailer is scheduled for 17 January 2027 during the final day of the Tekken World Tour 2026 Global Finals in Singapore. That date is confirmed; his exact playable release date, move list, early-access window and standalone DLC price have not yet been announced.
What is confirmed and what remains unknown?
Roger Jr.’s two release dates, purchase routes, core stances and combat role are confirmed by Bandai Namco. Yujiro’s in-game appearance, early-2027 window and January trailer date are also official. Claims about exact frame data, competitive tier placement, balance changes or Yujiro’s moves remain speculation until the characters are released or the publisher shares more information.
