Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Dual Fusion expansion launches on 29 October 2026 and introduces dual-type cards to the mobile game for the first time. The Pokémon Company also confirmed a new weekly Special Pack system and a year-long Pikachu event with an exclusive immersive Pikachu ex card.
The update arrives just before Pokémon TCG Pocket’s second anniversary. Its three separate pieces have different dates, so players should distinguish the permanent Dual Fusion card expansion from the limited First Partners packs and Pikachu missions.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Dual Fusion dates
| Content | Date |
|---|---|
| Dual Fusion expansion | From 29 October 2026 |
| Special Pack: First Partners | 31 October–26 December 2026 |
| Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions | 20 October 2026–20 October 2027 |
The Pokémon Company’s UK announcement gives 29 October as the expansion’s availability date. Regional storefront resets can sometimes cause a late-28-October appearance elsewhere, but UK players should plan around the official 29 October date unless the in-app notice states otherwise.
Dual-type cards make their Pokémon TCG Pocket debut
Dual-type Pokémon display two types on one card, opening new deck-building and match-up possibilities. The two confirmed headline cards are:
- Mega Mewtwo X ex — Psychic and Fighting type
- Mega Greninja ex — Water and Darkness type
The announcement does not yet explain every interaction with type-based effects, Energy generation or Weakness. Those details will matter when players begin combining dual-type attackers with existing support cards, but it would be premature to declare a competitive meta before the full card list and rules text are available.
Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise are also receiving new cards and illustrations. Exact rarities, attacks and pack distribution were not listed in the media alert.
How Special Pack: First Partners works
Special packs are a new pack category rather than ordinary booster packs. They use special pack stamina, which recovers once per week, and each opened pack is guaranteed to contain one ★ card.
The first release runs from 31 October through 26 December and focuses on the first partner Pokémon from all nine discovered regions. Because stamina recovers weekly, logging in consistently should be more important than spending all resources on day one.
The company has not confirmed whether extra special pack stamina can be purchased, earned from missions or stored beyond one weekly recovery. Players should wait for the in-app rules before spending Pack Hourglasses or Shop Tickets in anticipation.
Pika Pika Pikachu Missions and the immersive Pikachu ex reward
The anniversary missions are already live from 20 October 2026 and remain available until 20 October 2027. Players who log in for ten days can obtain:
- An event-exclusive immersive Pikachu ex card
- Pika Pika! Pikachu Packs containing a selection of Pikachu cards
- New in-game accessories
The one-year window is generous, but the reward still requires ten login days. Anyone returning specifically for Dual Fusion can start progressing before the expansion launches.
More second-anniversary events are coming
The Pokémon Company also teased a Second Anniversary Celebration Campaign, themed Promo Card events and additional missions. Dates, reward lists and task requirements were not included, so those activities remain confirmed but not fully detailed.
This is an important distinction for collectors: the Pikachu ex login reward and First Partners schedule are official, while social-media graphics claiming additional free cards or redemption codes should not be treated as confirmed unless they appear in the app or on Pokémon’s official channels.
