Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises is now live in Pokémon Pokopia, giving Nintendo Switch 2 players a limited window to befriend Pumpkaboo, collect event-only Pumpkin Candy and unlock midnight-festival decorations. Players who build the correct habitat can also befriend Gourgeist, and both Pokémon remain in town after the event ends.
The event runs from 17 October at 5:00 a.m. until 1 November at 4:59 a.m. local time. It is free for Pokémon Pokopia owners, but it will not appear automatically unless the game is updated and several story requirements have been completed.
Pokémon Pokopia Pumpkaboo event dates
Nintendo's confirmed schedule is:
- Start: 17 October 2026 at 5:00 a.m. local time
- End: 1 November 2026 at 4:59 a.m. local time
- Required version: Pokémon Pokopia Ver. 2.0.1
- Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
The schedule follows the local time shown by the Switch 2 system. Nintendo specifically warns that the event will not occur if the console is set to a date outside the event period, so players should leave automatic date and time enabled.
The 1 November finish is an early-morning cutoff rather than the end of the day. UK players should therefore complete exchanges and habitat work by the evening of 31 October instead of waiting until Sunday afternoon.
How to start Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises
Four conditions must be met before the event can begin:
- Download software update Ver. 2.0.1 and confirm the version through the HOME Menu's Options screen.
- Complete a town's important request and rebuild the Pokémon Center.
- Learn the move Camouflage from Zorua in Bleak Beach.
- Launch the game while connected to the internet.
If all conditions are already satisfied, look for Pumpkaboo's request near the Pokémon Center. Players who meet the requirements during the event may need to move to another town once or choose Save & Quit from the main menu to trigger it.
Nintendo says the event will still occur if the progression requirements are completed on 1 November, but the very early cutoff leaves little practical time. Finishing the prerequisite story content before the final weekend is the safer approach.
How to earn Pumpkin Candy
After speaking to Pumpkaboo and accepting the request, use Camouflage to disguise yourself as furniture or other objects that nearby Pokémon like. Surprising Pokémon that approach the disguised player awards Pumpkin Candy.
Pumpkin Candy is an event-only currency. Take it to the Pokémon Center and trade it for furniture and decorations inspired by a midnight festival. Nintendo has not published a complete price list in the announcement, so exact candy costs should be checked inside the event exchange.
Can Pumpkin Candy be bought or redeemed with a code?
No purchase or external redemption code has been announced. The confirmed method is playing the event and earning candy through the Camouflage activity. Any website claiming to generate Pumpkin Candy codes should be treated as unofficial.
How to befriend Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist
Pumpkaboo becomes available after the opening request near the Pokémon Center. Gourgeist requires an extra step: exchange Pumpkin Candy for event items, then use those pieces to create a suitable habitat. Gourgeist can be befriended after it arrives.
This makes the furniture more than cosmetic decoration. Players interested in completing the event's Pokémon rewards should design the habitat before spending every piece of candy on unrelated layouts.
Both Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist remain in the town after Sweet Surprises finishes. The temporary parts are the event activity, Pumpkin Candy collection and exchange window—not the Pokémon already befriended.
Multiplayer and location restrictions
The event does not occur on Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin. Multiplayer is supported through Link Play in Palette Town, but the host must speak to Pumpkaboo and receive the event details before starting multiplayer. Spectator Mode cannot be used for the event.
An internet connection is required the first time the event is played. Nintendo does not say that a constant connection is necessary for every activity, but the safest approach is to connect before launching until the version and event status have both been verified.
What is confirmed and what is not
Confirmed: the event dates, Ver. 2.0.1 requirement, story prerequisites, Pumpkin Candy activity, furniture exchange, Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist availability, multiplayer rules and the fact that befriended Pokémon remain after the event.
Not confirmed: Nintendo has not listed every decoration, exchange cost or candy farming rate in its public announcement. There is also no announced paid shortcut, promotional code or transferable reward. Screenshots circulating without matching in-game names should be treated as provisional.
Best way to finish before 1 November
Update the game first, complete the Pokémon Center and Camouflage prerequisites, then speak to Pumpkaboo before entering Link Play. Earn enough Pumpkin Candy for the habitat items early so Gourgeist is secured before spending the remainder on decoration.
