Minecraft Live September 2026: New Dimension, Dungeons II & Ice Caves

Minecraft Live September 2026 delivered one of the biggest announcements in the game’s history: a fourth dimension is officially coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition. Mojang also gave players a closer look at Minecraft Dungeons II ahead of its 29 September launch, revealed a frozen cave biome and new hostile mob for the next game drop, and confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 release date.

The broadcast took place on 26 September 2026. Below is a clear breakdown of what Mojang confirmed, when the new content is expected, and which rewards have deadlines attached.

Minecraft Live September 2026: the main announcements

The headline announcements from the show were:

  • The Sift, a new dimension debuting in Minecraft Dungeons II, will come to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
  • Minecraft Dungeons II launches on 29 September 2026 with an interconnected world, rifts, jumping and new regions.
  • The next Minecraft game drop introduces ice caves, icicles, ice crystals and a frozen zombie variant.
  • Minecraft arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026.
  • Minecraft World at Chessington World of Adventures Resort is planned to open in London in 2027.
  • New sound-effects packs are coming to Minecraft Marketplace.

Mojang has confirmed these items through its official recap. Release timing is still broad for some features, so any dates not stated by Mojang should be treated as unconfirmed.

The Sift is Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years

The biggest reveal was The Sift. It appears first in Minecraft Dungeons II as a strange, colourful dimension filled with souls. Players reach it through rifts found across the sequel’s interconnected world, with revealed areas including the Meadow and the Carapace.

Mojang then confirmed that The Sift will also be added to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. It will join the Overworld, Nether and End as Minecraft’s fourth dimension and the first entirely new dimension added in more than 14 years.

The announcement is important, but there are limits to what has been confirmed. Mojang has not yet supplied a precise 2027 release date, a complete mob list, progression requirements or final details on how players will enter The Sift in the main game. More technical previews and snapshots are likely before launch, but anything beyond the official showcase remains speculation.

Minecraft Dungeons II launches on 29 September

Minecraft Dungeons II releases on 29 September 2026. The sequel replaces the first game’s mission-by-mission structure with a larger connected world. Players can explore with friends, jump across terrain, discover rifts and travel into The Sift while fighting the Illager High Council and other new enemies.

Mojang’s official information also highlights expanded combat, deeper character customisation and new equipment choices. The launch gives players their first opportunity to explore The Sift before the dimension reaches Minecraft Java and Bedrock next year.

Dungeons II pre-order rewards and deadline

The limited pre-order offer is scheduled to expire on 28 September 2026. Mojang lists two hero skins, the Twisted Cape and the Twisted Chicken pet as pre-order rewards, although availability can vary by region, platform and retailer. Players interested in those bonuses should check the precise offer shown by their chosen store before buying.

How to unlock the Hero Cape

The separate Hero Cape promotion requires players to play Minecraft Dungeons I and then log into Minecraft Dungeons II using the same Microsoft account before 31 December 2026. Once the reward appears in Dungeons II, logging into Minecraft Java and/or Bedrock Edition with that account should unlock the cape there as well.

This is an account-based promotion rather than a transferable reward code. Both games are required, although playing through Game Pass qualifies according to Mojang’s terms.

Ice caves and a frozen zombie are coming next

The next Minecraft game drop takes players underground into a new frozen cave biome. Mojang showed ice caves formed from ice and calcite, with icicles growing from ceilings and glowing ice crystals growing from the ground.

The biome also introduces a new frozen zombie variant. It can apply a freezing effect when it attacks, and some versions can throw damaging ice balls. Mojang has not announced the mob’s final name or a firm release date, so the confirmed information is currently limited to the first-look footage and official recap.

Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 and Minecraft World London

Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026. More platform-specific information is expected closer to release.

Mojang also shared more about Minecraft World, opening at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London during 2027. Plans include the first Minecraft World Hotel, themed dining and Escape the Nether, described as the first Minecraft rollercoaster. An exact opening date and ticket details have not yet been announced.

What Minecraft players should watch next

The immediate dates are 28 September for the Dungeons II pre-order deadline, 29 September for the game’s launch, 27 October for Minecraft on Switch 2 and 31 December for the Hero Cape qualification deadline. The Sift’s arrival in Java and Bedrock remains set only for 2027.
